DESCRIPTION:The Third Thursday Talks hosted by the Museum of the Everglades are geared towards teaching and preserving the history of the area. \nOctober 16 -Pathways to Partnership: Listening\, Learning\, and Working Together\nIn this companion lecture to Sharing the Path\, Museum Manager Thomas Lockyear will explore the ways in which partnerships with our region’s indigenous people have shaped our understanding of and relationship with what has been described as “one of the harshest environments on earth” — both historically and in present day. \nMr. Lockyear will also discuss the evolution of the exhibit as well as the Museum’s 2023 collaboration with the Miccosukee Tribe on the We Are Still Here exhibit that shared their history from their own perspective. DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, October 13th – the nationally celebrated holiday of Indigenous People’s Day – Museum of the Everglades will open of our new “Sharing the Path” exhibit. Normally closed on Mondays\, we saw this day as an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to sharing the history and culture of South Florida’s Native peoples.\n\nIn light of the greater Everglades community’s long history of learning from\, working together with and welcoming this region’s native residents\, it seems only fitting to celebrate those partnerships on this day.\n\nJoin us as we respectfully recognize the continuing contributions of the Miccosukee and Seminole people to the preservation of the Everglades\, acknowledge their historical presence in our region and express gratitude for the knowledge and wisdom they have shared with us. Enjoy and engage with our new exhibit and explore the possibilities for a better future offered by integrating traditional indigenous knowledge.
