DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Museum of the Everglades invite the community to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an evening of Irish food\, music\, and fun on Tuesday\, March 17\, 2026\, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on the grounds of the Museum of the Everglades in Everglades City. \nGuests will enjoy traditional corned beef and cabbage served with Irish soda bread\, along with beer\, wine\, and water\, all included with admission. \nThe celebration will feature live music\, games\, and light-hearted competitions\, with prizes awarded for best Irish dress\, best Irish jokes\, and best clean limericks. DESCRIPTION:In this companion lecture to the current temporary exhibit at Museum of the Everglades\, Growing Obsession\, Museum Manager Thomas Lockyear will focus on the now infamous case of attempted theft—immortalized in Susan Orlean’s iconic book The Orchid Thief—in the nearby Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve Park.  The sordid story of Homestead horticulturist John Edward Larouche and his perfidious plan to purloin and propagate rare Ghost Orchids\, along with other crimes of floral passion\, will be discussed.
