Everglades City
by Everglades Society for Historic Preservation
The list of performers at the Everglades City Music Festival on Saturday, November 2, is firming up. They are all donating their time and talents to help restore the old Bank of Everglades building so the organizers can not be sure who might show up unexpectedly.
They are sure of Raiford Starke, a popular supporter of the area who writes songs with humorous local color and catchy tunes.
Local gal-made-good is Charlie Pace began singing in public while still in school and released her first album before she graduated.
Another gal with local roots is Sarah McCullough who grew up amidst the swampy forest in the Big Cypress where her father operated a sawmill which she recognized in her debut album “Sawmiller’s Daughter”.
From much further away, Ken Crawford travels down from Tallahassee. He was Director of the Florida Folk Festival and has been here before. Chuck Walston, formerly with the famous country rock band The Vidalias, is a famous steel guitar player who will be onstage backing up Raiford, the Florida Boys and any one else who needs a steel sound.
Some of them might show up for a live broadcast of the Florida Folk Show which starts at 10:00 a.m. on Radio St Pete so be sure to listen online at www.radiostpete.com for some good chat and songs, hosted by Pete Gallagher who has been instrumental in making this event a success.
Food will be available from the Rod & Gun Club which has hosted this festival for several years on behalf of the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the area’s unique history.
