Triggerfish Season Closure Begins January 1

If you fish local waters, here’s a quick heads-up for the new year.

Recreational harvest of gray triggerfish in Gulf state waters closes January 1 and will reopen March 1, 2026. This seasonal closure helps protect fish stocks during sensitive periods and supports a healthy fishery long term.

These closures are part of ongoing conservation and data-driven management efforts by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Anglers targeting reef fish from private vessels should be registered as State Reef Fish Anglers and check current regulations before heading out.

Full regulations and updates are available at MyFWC.com or through the Fish Rules App.
