If you’ve been wondering what’s happening with the Bank of the Everglades, there’s a new video that answers a lot of those questions.

The Everglades Society for Historic Preservation (ESHP) has released a video update showing the progress made so far on the restoration of one of Everglades City’s best-known historic landmarks.

Phase One is now complete. Although much of the work isn’t obvious from the street, the building has been stabilized, strengthened, and prepared for the next stage of restoration. Historic features have also been preserved so they can become part of the finished project.

The project is now waiting for the next round of funding. In July, ESHP submitted a matching grant application to the Florida Division of Historic Resources. Earlier this year, the organization also applied for funding through Collier County. Because ESHP is a nonprofit, private donations continue to play an important role in moving the project forward.

When finished, the Bank of the Everglades will become the Everglades Area Welcome Center and Trail Town Headquarters, with space for exhibits, meetings, and other community activities.
