ESHP just announced that work continues on the historic Bank of Everglades Building, with steady progress made on the foundation phase of the rehabilitation project.
Over the past month, Classic Carpentry and Commercial Concrete Services (CCS) completed major groundwork as part of Phase I. Rebar has been installed, and concrete slabs have now been poured along the front, north side, and rear of the building. With these steps complete, the project is moving closer to the conclusion of its first construction phase.
The rehabilitation effort is led by the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation (ESHP). Federal funding has been secured to support structural stabilization and foundation work now underway. Additional state funding has been requested to help complete future phases of the project, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems needed to prepare the building for public use.
The Bank of Everglades Building is one of Florida’s most iconic surviving structures from the era that helped shape Collier County. Constructed in the 1920s, it served for decades as Everglades City’s financial center and remains an important architectural reminder of early 20th-century development in Southwest Florida.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located within Everglades City, the restored building is planned to become a Welcome Center and community focal point. Once complete, it will host artists, events, and social gatherings while preserving the building’s historic character.
