Everglades City

On January 16, 2025 the Everglades City School middle school boys basketball team coached by Coach Gene Combs, won the Southwest Florida Athletic Conference championship for the second year in a row! Being a repeat champion in this tough conference with Marco Charter Middle School, Oak Creek Charter School, Naples Classical Charter, and Gulf Coast Charter School is no small feat!
The Gators were led by 8th grade stars Kyrie Huggins and Lanvin Fairclough. This dynamic duo combined for 80% of the points for the Gators and led the team with assists! Eight grade standout Aaron Smith was strong on the boards and a force to be reckoned with under the basket! The Gators also had defensive specialist Zyion Jones to help stop any threat the opponent posed. Sixth grader, Ace Mitchell, stepped up in the second half of the season to create a new threat to the opponents! Ace’s ball handling and outside shooting helped the Gators in clutch situations!
This Southwest Florida Athletic Conference championship trophy makes the 4th trophy in 2 years the middle school Gator Athletes have brought home! Last year our middle school girls’ and boys’ basketball teams won the Southwest Florida Athletic Conference championships. This year our middle school Lady Gator Volleyball team brought home the trophy too! Congratulations to the Gators!
