EVG December School Updates

Everglades City

by Dr. Cherie Allison | Principal, Everglades City School

Mrs. Owen is an incredible media specialist who gets all students excited to read! EVG’s third , fourth and fifth grade had a fun non-fiction November reading challenge. The students read only non-fiction books from the library in November. They discovered all the people, places and things, non-fiction books have to offer! After reading their books, they took the Accelerated Reading program quiz. They were challenged to score an 80% or higher. In only three weeks, they read 131 non-fiction books! The class leader was the fifth-grade! They earned just three more books than the third graders! Congratulations to the fifth graders for reading 52 non-fiction books! In the photos, they are holding the “traveling” reading trophy! Also, they got to sign the media center windows and write inspiring words for others!

Elementary students working on their “typing fingers!” Mrs. Burchard does a fabulous job of teaching all our elementary students keyboarding skills.

At EVG we try to incorporate multiple age lessons to take advantage of the vast grade levels that the school houses. Mr. Cartamil and his Agricultural science students helped to teach the Kindergarten how to plant and take care of vegetables. Mr. Cartamil will later cultivate the vegetables and the students will cook various recipes using these vegetables for the younger students!

Join us on Saturday, January 11, 2025, for the EVG Community Outreach Project, hosted in partnership with Meals of Hope. This event, sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and Elementary Leadership, welcomes students in grades 2-12, along with parents, teachers, and stakeholders, to come together for a morning of service.

Held in the EVG Cafeteria from 8:30 am to 11:00 am, this project aims to combat hunger while fostering community spirit. Volunteers are crucial to its success, and we’re aiming for at least 50 participants. Don’t miss this chance to give back and make a meaningful impact. See you there!
