EVG School Updates

Everglades City

by Dr. Cherie Allison
Principal, EVG, Everglades City School

Everglades City School’s spring Scholastic book fair was a huge success! In addition to earning funds for our media center, the excitement for reading was felt by all! Students were so happy with their new books! We are especially thankful to Deputy Sue Gentry and the Police Activities League for purchasing a NEW book for all the EVG students! Monday, March 3rd Deputy Sue shopped and purchased a book for each EVG student! Wow!

Seventh-grade students from EVG recently participated in the CCPS-sponsored field trip to Florida Gulf Coast University, focusing on the College and Career Readiness Experience. The purpose was to promote student interest in pursuing post-secondary education.

Through the experience, seventh-grade students saw the connection between school and careers and can start thinking about a plan for the upcoming transition from middle/high school to college and careers.

While at FGCU, the seventh-grade students took a guided campus tour and had access to classrooms, dormitories, the library, student center, sports facilities, and the College of Construction Management.

The students had a great time seeing all the different options on FGCU’s campus, but I think their favorite was all the different selections of where to eat on campus, including a Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Everglades City School student government attended the FASC state conference on Feb. 21-23 at East River High School in Orlando with about 1,500 other students.

The students had 3 full days of leadership seminars, motivational speakers, and team building!

What an incredible opportunity provided to our students thanks to the Hook’em in the Glades fishing fundraiser!
