How to Store Avocados

Storing avocados is all about timing and knowing when to act to preserve their deliciousness. For those unripe avocados that are still hard to the touch, store them at room temperature and give them a few days to ripen. It’s like waiting for the perfect moment when the avocado yields slightly to gentle pressure. Once ripe, move it to the refrigerator to slow the ripening process. The cool air will keep it fresh for 2–3 more days, but don’t forget to check on it daily to make sure it doesn’t get too soft.

Cutting into an avocado and only using part of it? No problem! Keep the half with the seed in it—this little seed helps preserve the avocado’s freshness. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge to minimize browning. And if you want to stretch your avocado enjoyment over several months, freezing is a game-changer. Simply peel, puree, and add a splash of lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Pop it in a storage container, and you’ll have frozen avocados ready for smoothies, dips, or spreads whenever you’re craving that creamy goodness!
