Everglades City

If you’ve never visited Everglades City during the Christmas holiday, you’re missing out. As the holiday season approaches, Everglades City transforms into a festive haven, brimming with activities that bring the community together and light up the town with seasonal cheer. From historic celebrations to family-friendly events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in our little slice of paradise.
Kick off the holiday season on Saturday, December 7th, with Art in the Glades from 10 am to 1 pm at McLeod Park in historic Everglades City. This informal and free event is a wonderful opportunity to do your holiday shopping while supporting talented local artisans and crafters. You’ll find one-of-a-kind gifts and unique items for sale, perfect for everyone on your list. Bring your kids to enjoy the swings while you browse, and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join the fun. Treat yourself to lunch with seasonal stone crabs at a nearby restaurant after shopping.
Later that evening, the town will shine with holiday spirit during the Christmas Tree Lighting & Light Parade at 5 pm. A time-honored tradition, this celebration fills McLeod Park with laughter, joy, and festive energy. Expect dazzling lights, music, food, raffle prizes, and plenty of good cheer as the town gathers to kick off the Christmas season. After the tree lighting, the Annual Christmas Boat Parade will light up the Barron River. Whether you’re participating with your own decorated boat or watching the parade from City Seafood, it’s an evening you won’t forget.
On December 18th at 6:30 pm, the Chokoloskee Family Church will host its Hors D’oeuvres & Ugly Sweater Contest. This event brings plenty of laughs, delicious food, and the chance to show off your silliest holiday sweater. Who doesn’t love a fun contest where the ugliest sweater wins?
For families, December brings the chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus in person. On December 21st from noon to 2 pm, head to the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters for hot cocoa and free holiday photos with the Claus couple! For those looking to share their wish lists with Santa, don’t miss his visit to Captain Morgan’s on December 21st and 22nd from 12 to 4 pm. Bring your camera and make it a memorable experience for the little ones.
Come experience the holiday season in Everglades City, where community spirit brings everyone together.
