Everglades City

The Everglades City community is buzzing with pride as we celebrate the exceptional achievements of our middle school girls’ volleyball team, Team A. Heartfelt congratulations are in order for these talented athletes, who have just wrapped up an outstanding season, boasting an impressive undefeated record of 16-0 and claiming the title of SWFAC Volleyball Tournament Champions!
The incredible roster includes Madeline Collins (#19), Camilla Fernandez (#5), Amaia Mayberry Rementeria (#7), Kaiya Kidder (#8), Aria Mitchell (#9), Darian Mendoza (#3), and Xzaviera Davis (#15). From their early days in sixth grade, these girls have demonstrated what it means to work together as a cohesive unit. Time and again, they have shown that teamwork can overcome any challenge. Their hard work, both in school and on the court, has truly paid off, leading to remarkable gains over the years.
One of the standout achievements of this season was their victory over Marco Island Middle School, a team that has historically been one of their toughest competitors. The Gators faced Marco Island not once, not twice but three times this season, emerging victorious all three times! This accomplishment is a testament to the determination and hard work the girls put in, as they set their minds to defeating a team they had struggled against in the past. It’s a huge victory that reflects their growth and commitment to excellence.
Not only do these girls excel in volleyball, but they also participate in a variety of sports together, showcasing their commitment to teamwork and friendship. Their extracurricular activities go beyond athletics; they eagerly engage in youth group gatherings, private volleyball sessions, and practice with Coach Amie Burton, who has dedicated countless hours to helping them improve their skills. Additionally, they come together for bake sales and other community events, demonstrating their spirit of camaraderie and service.
We would also like to acknowledge that this beautiful team is shaped by an outstanding coach, Jason Mayberry. The lessons he has imparted over the past several years are evident in the respect these girls show for one another on the court, as well as for their opposing teams. This mutual respect is truly something beautiful and speaks volumes about the character they are developing as athletes and individuals.
This level of involvement is something we don’t always see, but it is what makes this middle school volleyball team so special. The dynamic these girls share is evident in their ability to support each other through moments of frustration and joy. Their bond extends beyond the volleyball court, as they cherish their friendships and love for each other outside of school.
In a world where teamwork and camaraderie are essential, the Everglades City Gators exemplify these values in every match. We couldn’t be prouder of this outstanding group of young athletes, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow and excel in the future! Go Gators!
