Everglades City
by Patty Huff
In 2003, Friends Of Fakahatchee (FOF) President Patty Huff announced that its new member Marya Repko had agreed to become Membership Chair. Little did she, or anyone, know that this would become a 22-year commitment. Marya’s accuracy and dedication to perfection served FOF well for over two decades. She sent out notices and encouraged people from all over South Florida to become members of the nonprofit organization serving the largest state park in Florida.
In 2010, she was awarded the distinguished Mel Finn Award by the Friends group, and in March of this year, she was presented with another award for her outstanding service as Membership Chairperson. Marya is retiring, and Executive Director Francine Stephens is taking over her responsibilities. Well done, Marya!
The Mel Finn Award
The Mel Finn Award recognizes individuals who have dedicated their time to benefiting the Fakahatchee and embody the spirit of the founding father of the Fakahatchee Strand State Park, as stated in the award’s description.
