Visit Everglades City and the Ten Thousand Islands of Southwest Florida, the Everglades

Stone Crab Season Closes Friday May 1

Ten Thousand Islands

If you’ve been putting off that stone crab run, you’re out of time.

Friday, May 1 is the last day Florida boats can legally harvest stone crab claws. The state harvest window runs October 15 through May 1 every year, and once the boats come in Friday evening, that’s it until next October.

Here in Everglades City — the Stone Crab Capital of the World — that final week has its own rhythm. Boats unload, traps come up, and locals make sure they get one more order in. Markets keep selling for a few days after May 1 once stock catches up, but selection thins out fast. If you want fresh claws this season, this week is it.

For where to actually go — markets, restaurants, and the dockside spots across Everglades City, Chokoloskee, and Goodland — see our full guide: Where to Get Stone Crab in Everglades City, Goodland & the Ten Thousand Islands

Stone crab season opens again October 15. See you in October.
